Ginnaye (singular: ginnaya), the name of the jinn of Tadmur (Palmyra).
King Sulaiman built Tadmor in the wilderness, and this he did by the aid of the jinn. If any of these rebelled, the king had him placed between two blocks of marble and built into the foundation of the city. When the imprisoned jinn shake themselves in order to be free from their confinement the earth trembles, and this is the cause of the earthquakes in the region of Tadmor.
