The dami (bloody one) is a "half-bestial ogress" that haunts the outskirts of towns and villages. As with ancient Babylonian and Assyrian jinn, its usual food is dirt, refuse and leavings of all kinds, but it is also said to enjoy eating human flesh. In Iraqi folk-tales, the dami often plays the role assigned in European fairy-tales to the wolf (as in, for example, Little Red Riding Hood).[1]
